Mangaung dissolved Centlec’s dysfunctional board─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:33 Tue, 08 Nov 2022

The Bloemfontein-based Mangaung Metro Municipality in the Free State has finally disbanded the board of the metro’s power utility, which functioned with only two directors when the minimum in terms of the Company Act should be three.
The disbandment of Centlec's board comes after a slew of allegations of maladministration and that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Malefane Sekoboto, was targeting senior officials who were opposed to his views.

The mayor of the Metro, Mxolisi Siyonzana, on Monday 7 November 2022 announced that the board was disbanded and the new administrator who will look into the affairs of the utility has been appointed with a term in office ending in December. He says a new board is set to be instituted in December 2022. During the special council sitting on Monday in Bloemfontein, Siyonzana said one thing the management had noticed relates to the decline in Centlec’s revenue.
Earlier OFM News reported that the ANC’s upper structure in the province, called the Interim Provincial Committee (IPC), said it recommended that the board should be dissolved.

But Siyonzana did not have an easy day during council on Monday with councillors from all parties, including the majority party having a go at the mayor and his conduct in relation to the controversial power utility.
ANC councillor and former Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC), Patrick Monyakoane, asked Siyonzana what enabled him to disband the board with a report on the allegations over the power utility.
The disbandment of the board comes after the oversight of finance minister Enoch Gondongwana. The metro says the Finance Minister is in the Metro to engage with the council about the work that has been done to stabilise the city. Godongwana is also set to discuss matters with the National Cabinet Representative team that he had earlier sent to the metro.
