National shutdown: 15 protesters still in police custody | News Article

The EFF in the North West said about 15 of their members are still in police custody after they were arrested during the national shutdown protests on Monday.

The North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management said on Monday 59 people were arrested in the province for various offences.

EFF's North West secretary Papiki Babuile said they were present at different magistrate's courts to ensure the members are released. He said eight members are still detained in Mogwase and seven in Bloemhof.

Babuile said those in Bloemhof will appear before the court on Friday to apply for bail. Those in Mogwase will appear on Monday.

North West NPA spokesperson Henry Mamothame said in some instances the state postponed bail applications to verify the particulars of the suspects.

Babuile said their members will be at court to continue to support those who are still detained.
