Nine lives lost since start of April in North West─── 07:56 Sun, 09 Apr 2023

The North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management says about nine people lost their lives in various accidents across the province since the beginning of April.
The latest incident occurred Thursday night in Ikageng near Potchefstroom, where a 12-year-old was hit by a car, according to spokesperson Alpheus Koonyaditse. Angry residents in the area then became aggressive towards the two occupants and torched their vehicle.
Koonyaditse told OFM News that law enforcement officers rescued the two.
The department has been busy with joint law enforcement operations across roads in parts of the province, led by MEC Sello Lehari.
Koonyaditse says other lives were lost in Mokgopela village near Taung, Ledig outside Rustenburg and Lichtenberg.
Lehari has appealed to pedestrians to also be extra careful when crossing roads at night.
"There is an increase in incidents of pedestrians who are hit by vehicles and most of them seemingly coming back from the hostelry (pubs)," said Koonyaditse.
