In commemoration of Nelson Mandela International Day, which is celebrated on his birthday on 18 July each year, the Central University of Technology (CUT), Free State, spent 67 minutes cleaning up the CBD.
MMM Acting Executive Mayor, Councillor Gregory Nthatisi, CUT Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Alfred Ngowi, accompanied by management, members of the mayoral committee, workers, and students all participated in the cleanup operation.
The theme for the clean-up campaign was “solidarity in reducing climate change, and food security”.
The campaign focused on cleaning Hoffman Square, the Mangaung Library, Central Park, and Charlotte Maxeke Street; located in Bloemfontein’s Central Business District (CBD).
This operation continues an established relationship between the CUT and Mangaung Metro.
“We are grateful to see our students and colleagues participating in this cleaning campaign to commemorate the legacy of Madiba. This is our modest way of contributing toward a liveable and sustainable environment in the metro and reducing our carbon footprint,” said CUT Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Ngowi.
