Moqhaka councillor accused of rape to appear in court─── ZENANDE MPAME 14:55 Wed, 06 Dec 2023
“We invite all concerned residents and members of the community of Moqhaka to be present and ensure that justice is served.”
A member of the mayoral committee of Moqhaka Municipality was arrested on Monday (4/12) on charges of rape after the victim opened a case in Viljoenskroon. He is expected to appear in the Magistrates’ Court on Monday (11/12).
It is alleged that in the early hours of Monday the victim requested a lift home from the suspect as it was someone she knew. The suspect drove near Oorskit farm and raped her.
“As the EFF we call for the removal of him as a councillor and as MMC in Moqhaka, the law needs to deal decisively with him and ensure to make an example of him so that no one can go around harming civilians and using their influence and prominence.”

“This is happening in 16 days of activism of no violence against women and children. The scourge of GBV, rape, and femicide will not continue under our watch,” said Fezile Dabi regional chairperson April Motaung.
Rise Mzansi is appalled and disgusted by the alleged rape of the 22-year-old by the Moqhaka councillor, said Free State Rise Mzansi communication officer Mokgadi Kganakga.
“We also call on the ANC to deal with this matter by disciplining their member for his atrocious actions during a time when the nation is observing 16 days of activism against women and child abuse,” said Kganakga.
The EFF and Rise Mzansi will be in attendance at the bail hearing of the suspect on Monday (11/12).
