“Maloyi should acknowledge and apologise for the state of the province.”

Residents of North West will on Tuesday hear what the Provincial Government has in store during the State of the Province Address (Sopa), which will be delivered by the ANC Chairperson and MEC for Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Nono Maloyi, at the Provincial Legislature in Mmathabo.

On Sunday, Maloyi was sworn in as acting premier by the North West Division Judge President Ronald Hendricks, as Premier Bushy Maape continues to take precautions related to his surgery.

Chapter 6, Section 131 (1) (a) of the constitution of the Republic was invoked by Maape to appoint Maloyi as acting premier until 10 March 2024.

North West Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone said all role players are ready to provide safety and security in the area.

Speaking to OFM News, ANC spokesperson Tumelo Maruping said the Provincial Executive Committee Lekgotla two weeks ago in Rustenburg, has deliberated on the issue key for Sopa.

Maruping said outstanding water projects that need to be completed by May are a concern, eradication of mud houses and blocked houses projects.

The EFF North West secretary Papiki Babuile said there is nothing new that the ANC-led government has for the people of the province, apart from continued empty promises.

Babuile told OFM News the incomplete Mandela Drive Road project is a key example of failures by the government, including the scandal of lessons conducted inside the toilets in Taung earlier this year.

Mokgwabone has indicated that members of the public should note that some roads will be restricted due to the address.

DA provincial chairperson Freddy Sonakile, told OFM News Maloyi should acknowledge and apologise for the state of the province, citing that roads are death traps and municipalities are dysfunctional.

Sonakile said there will be nothing beneficial for the people of North West in Maloyi's Sopa and urged them to ensure this is the last address by the ANC government.
