Free State police are appealing to members of the community to assist with any information that could assist in identifying the suspect or suspects responsible for the murder of a Bohlokong woman.
The burnt body of an unknown woman was discovered in Phase 7 by a community member on Monday (4/8).
The victim had sustained stab wounds, and her body was burned beyond recognition. Pathologists will conduct a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death and whether she was sexually violated before the murder.
“The identity of the deceased remains unknown at this stage,” said Free State police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring. Acts of this nature are deeply disturbing and unacceptable.”
“This tragic incident occurs during Women’s Month, a time meant to celebrate and honour the lives and contributions of women in our society. We call on the community to unite in the fight against gender-based violence and support law enforcement efforts to ensure that justice is served.”
Police urge anyone with information that could assist in identifying the victim or in locating the perpetrator(s) to contact Capt. Motaung on 082 453 0794 or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
This discovery of the burnt body comes on a day when the alleged murder suspects of Disebo Mosupa (30), who was an ANCYL member and a Matjhabeng employee, appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court. Andile Sinyoko (42), the alleged boyfriend of Mosupa, and Lawrence Ncanca (37) were arrested after the body of Mosupa was exhumed by forensic investigators in a Welkom cemetery in July last year.
Free State Premier MaQueen Letsoha-Mathe voiced her concern about several murders of women by their partners. “There is a trend of killing women who are working and partners who want to benefit from them, as well as men who are known to them.”
“Every person has a right to life. We must not allow such heinous crimes against women to go unpunished,” said Mophiring.
