A senior ANC leader in the Free State has survived an accident scare.

ANC provincial secretary Polediso Motsoeneng was returning from a provincial working committee meeting in Bethlehem on Monday (29/9) when his vehicle apparently slipped and overturned on the N5 highway outside Paul Roux.

A QwaQwa-based government ambulance, which happened to be traveling from Bloemfontein, responded at the scene and transported him to Mediclinic Bethlehem for medical attention, said ANC provincial spokesperson Thabo Meeko.

Motsoeneng sustained moderate injuries in the crash and is currently undergoing further medical assessment. His condition is reported to be stable.

Appreciation for help

The party expressed its appreciation to first responders and medical personnel for their quick and professional intervention. Further information will be shared in due course, as appropriate, the party added.

Motsoeneng’s accident comes in the wake of several other road incidents reported across the province over the weekend. On Saturday (27/9), a collision between a light motor vehicle and a heavy-duty truck occurred on the N1 highway, approximately 25 km from Winburg towards Verkeerdevlei.

The crash disrupted traffic, with only the yellow lane available to motorists for a period of time.

On Sunday (28/9), another incident was reported on the N8 near Mandela View in Bloemfontein, where a car crashed into an ambulance.

Authorities have urged drivers to remain cautious and vigilant, particularly on major provincial routes that have seen a spike in accidents over recent days.
