Cell C and the Reach for a Dream Foundation officially handed over the renovated Dream Rooms at the Bloemfontein National District Hospital on Friday (10/10).

The event marked the latest milestone in the ongoing partnership between the two organisations. The aim is to create uplifting spaces where young patients can find comfort during their hospital stay.

To date, around 57 Dream Rooms have been built in hospitals across the country.  According to the regional manager, Kerry Donkin, this particular project stands out as the first of its kind designed specifically for adolescent patients.

“A hospital treats diseases, but the Dream Room goes beyond bounds and treats fear. It restores control, invites joy, and gives families a place of relief from the overwhelming effects of the diseases,” said CEO, Dr. Balekile Mzangwa.

The adolescent Dream Room was designed with creativity and relevance in mind and equipped with internet-enabled computers, PlayStation, and teen-focused games, which offer both learning and leisure.

“The department of health is the authority of health in the province, which takes care of everyone from conception planning to delivery to nurturing to productive health right through the life cycle until dignified death,” said the spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi.

With Cell C collaborating with Reach for a Dream, it has continued to grow to bring the value of technology into hospitals to help ease the children’s experience during their stay. “Through these technology-driven Dream Rooms, we aim to reduce fear and allow children to interact, learn, and find comfort while receiving treatment,” said Cell C managing executive for government relations, Joshua Moela.
