Police investigate if North West trio are link to other crimes─── REFILWE BEKANE 09:30 Sun, 22 Feb 2026
Police are investigating whether three men who allegedly held a victim at gunpoint are linked to other crimes in the region.
The investigation began after officers intercepted a vehicle on Tuesday (10/2) and found three occupants in possession of several cell phones and a pellet gun. Authorities believe this weapon, which resembles a real firearm, was used in previous criminal activities.
Detectives have already tied the suspects to an armed robbery that occurred on the R560 Road in Skeerpoort. During that incident, a man,29, was allegedly confronted and robbed of his phones at gunpoint.
Police are analysing forensic evidence to see if the group’s methods match other reported cases in North West.
The three suspects, Muslim Abi, 26, Prince Ncube, 39, and Johannes Sithole, 28, appeared in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Friday (20/2). The court denied their bail application, and they remained in custody. This allows the police more time to conduct further inquiries without interference.

“The arrest of the suspects demonstrates the police’s commitment to ensuring criminals are brought to book, and communities remain safe,” said Maj. Gen. Ryno Naidoo.
Meanwhile, a man, 40, is expected to appear in court soon following his arrest in Heidedal on Friday (20/2).

The arrest took place after police received information about a house being used to store dangerous and stolen goods. This action is part of the police’s provincial anti-gang unit’s ongoing work to remove illegal items from the streets of the Mangaung metro.
“During the search, members discovered 23 containers filled with 550 liters of diesel, with an estimated value of approximately R11,000, and a white Opel Corsa bakkie, used in the commission of a crime and possibly stolen, was also confiscated,” said Free State police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli.
The police said these proactive patrols are essential for keeping neighbourhoods safe from illegal trade and stolen property.
