Northern Cape police have again encouraged residents to report criminal activities in their communities following a successful drug bust and the discovery of an unidentified body in Kimberley.

Members of the Frances Baard District illicit mining task team acted on intelligence about the alleged sale of drugs at a premises in John Daka Phase One in Galeshewe on Saturday (15/3).

The police operationalised the information and raided the identified location. During the search and seizure operation, officers discovered a significant quantity of dagga with an estimated street value of R136,491, said Northern Cape police spokesperson, WO Molefi Shemane.


A suspect (37) was arrested for possession of dagga and is expected to appear in court soon.

Shemane said the police remain relentless in their efforts to remove drugs from communities and thanked residents for assisting law enforcement.

“Police remain relentless in efforts to remove drugs off the streets and appreciate the support and assistance of community members for providing vital information through Crime Stop at 08600 10111, or using the MySAPS App, which resulted in the positive success,” said Shemane.

Members of the public are reminded that all information received is treated with the strictest confidentiality.

Meanwhile, police have also opened an investigation after the body of an unknown adult male was discovered in an open veld near Moore Street in Kimberley on Wednesday, 11 June, at approximately 07:00.

The deceased is believed to be in his late twenties. At the time he was found, he was wearing brown trousers and a multi-coloured jersey.

Police are appealing to anyone who may be able to identify the deceased or assist in locating his next of kin to contact Det. Sgt. Moagi Mokatsane on 083 314 3855. Alternatively, phone Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app.
