“It’s absolutely a proud moment for all of us, and in the years to come we will reflect on this as a very special tour.”

The Proteas have thrashed Bangladesh by an innings and 273 runs on day three of the 2nd Test in Chattogram to claim a series clean sweep on the subcontinent.

South Africa scored 575/6 in their first innings before declaring on Wednesday, and on Thursday the Tigers resumed their first innings on 38/4.

The Proteas bowled them out for 159 with Kagiso Rabada taking 5/37 before enforcing the follow-on. Mominul Haque scored 82 runs for the hosts before being trapped lbw by the former North West Dragons captain, Senuran Muthusamy. The captain Aiden Markram downplayed the fact that he led his team to a first series win on the subcontinent in ten years but said it’s all down to special performances and a team effort.

“I don’t necessarily enjoy stuff like that, so for me, it’s more special being a part of a team that’s just won for the first time in ten years on the subcontinent,” said Markram.

“As a player and a part of the team, I’m incredibly proud to get a series win here. We obviously knew that it was never going to be easy, but we are very fortunate that we had some special performances along the way that got us into very strong positions and we were able to apply pressure through that.

“It’s absolutely a proud moment for all of us, and in the years to come we will reflect on this as a very special tour.”

The win sees South Africa claim a two-nil series victory after a seven-wicket win in Dhaka the previous week. This sees the Proteas move up to fourth on the World Test Championship table.
