“After consulting with numerous doctors and my team, I have decided it is best for my long term health to withdraw from this week’s US Open Championship.”

Bloemfontein’s Dean Burmester, will be the first of the four South Africans to tee it up at the 124th US Open which tees off on Thursday at Pinehurst in North Carolina

Burmester will be in action from 12:56 and he is grouped alongside Séamus Power of Ireland and Christopher Petefish of the USA.

Casey Jarvis will be the second South African on the tee and he will get underway at 13:07 along with the amateur Omar Morales of Mexico and Max Greyserman of the USA.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout, who will be heading to the Olympics in Paris, will tee it up at 18:52 and he is grouped with the American duo of Kurt Kitayama and Taylor Moore.

Erik van Rooyen is the last South African on the tee during the first round and he tees off at 19:58 along with Akshay Bhatia and Eric Cole of the USA.

Meanwhile, the two-time major winner, Jon Rahm, has withdrawn from the 124th US Open which tees off later today at Pinehurst in North Carolina.

The former world number one will miss out on playing in a major for the first time since 2016 due an injury.

The Spanish star has a foot infection, hence his decision to withdraw from the year’s third major. Rahm is being replaced at the major by Jackson Suber.

Rahm said the decision to withdraw was not an easy one, but it is one that is the best interest of his career.

“After consulting with numerous doctors and my team, I have decided it is best for my long term health to withdraw from this week’s US Open Championship.

“To say I’m disappointed is a massive understatement! I wish all my peers the best of luck and want to thank all of the USGA staff, volunteers, and community of Pinehurst for hosting and putting on what I’m sure will be an amazing championship! Hopefully I'll be back in action sooner than later!”
