A source told The Sun that the 55-year-old actor and the actress were introduced to each other by Theron's ex-fiance Sean Penn almost a month ago.

"They have been casually seeing each other for nearly a month now. They've been friends for some time - ironically through Sean - but things have developed," said the source.

The actor - who split from ex-wife Angelina Jolie - enjoyed a date with Theron in Los Angeles after attending a screening.

The source added: "They were ridiculously touchy-feely and his arm was around her back. At one point he winked at her.

"Brad seemed in a really good place, they both looked really happy."

Pitt and Jolie reached a custody agreement after battling one another over their six children for more than two years.

Theron, on the other hand, has been single since her engagement to Penn was called off in June 2015.
