#CoronaOutbreak: Most European countries on lock-down─── 13:29 Mon, 16 Mar 2020
The vast majority of Europe is in lockdown on Monday morning with Germany shutting its borders, Austria banning gatherings of more than five people, Spain and Italy ordering people to stay at home and France closing cafes, restaurants and shops.
The measures to contain the spread of coronavirus though are in stark contrast to the United Kingdom.
The number of deaths caused by coronavirus jumped by more than 50% in a single day in the UK. Thirty-five fatalities have now been confirmed.
The British government has warned that soon it'll be telling everyone over the age of 70 to stay at home for up to four months.
By trying to isolate the elderly and most at-risk group, the experts hope to slow the spread of the virus.
In addition, manufacturers have been asked to makes extra ventilators and private hospitals give up beds for the national health service.
