Renault to gradually resume production in Morocco─── 11:07 Mon, 20 Apr 2020
French car manufacturer Renault says it will gradually resume production in Tangier and Casablanca following a temporary suspension of operations on March 19 due to the Covid-19 outbreak, reported online news publication Morocco World News.
Renault temporarily suspended operations at its two plants in Morocco last month amid the global shutdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which disrupted the distribution of vehicle parts and demand for cars.
Meanwhile, according to news agency MAP, the company said, “A flexible organisation is put in place to adapt production to the recovery of markets and to meet the needs of its customers in Morocco and abroad.”
“Because the health and safety of our employees are a priority, the Renault Maroc Group has deployed across all of its industrial and commercial sites the strict application of the group’s health standards and directives from the Moroccan authorities,” the group said in a statement.
Renault Morocco will resume activity according to specific schedules for each site, saying it plans to start fully operating by the end of April.
The carmaker says it will put in place strict counter-coronavirus measures to protect its staff upon their return.
Furthermore, the company says it will maintain the 12,000 jobs of people working at its Morocco plants and respects the financial obligation toward its employees by paying them their net monthly salaries.
According to the North Africa Post, the investment by Renault and other car manufacturer PSA helped attract a network of car suppliers, creating clusters in the cities of Tangier and Kenitra as the automotive sector topped Morocco’s sales with 27% of total exports in 2020.
