Morocco’s National School of Public Health in co-operation with the national Ministry of Health has launched the country’s first e-learning platform, reported Morocco World News.

According to the publication, the programme will provide training that has been adapted to the needs of health professionals through programming that meets international standards in distance learning.

The development of the online academy was a collaborative effort between the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), the World Health Organization (WHO) and several other international organisations.

As the novel coronavirus pandemic alters life for many infected and affected people globally, the launch of the academy comes at a pivotal moment in the north African country’s fight against the killer virus.

Infections are rising gradually in Morocco, with the country recording 7,211 confirmed cases and 196 deaths, according to real-time tracker Worldometer.

Moroccan health authorities have tested 112,997 citizens since the start of the outbreak. The country has a population of just over 36 million people.

Despite the number of infections increasing daily, the country has also recorded 4,280 recoveries for a total of 2,735 active cases.

The coronavirus, which is spread mainly by droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes, can also be transmitted if one is in close proximity to an infected person and inhale the virus, according to the website SA Coronavirus.

Since the first case of the novel coronavirus emerged from the Chinese town of Wuhan in December, over 5 million people worldwide have been infected and 334,989 have died due to Covid-19-related complications.
