Bloemfontein - Free State residents have the lowest average life span in the country. A report by Statistics South Africa showed that the average life expectancy for males in the province is just under 49 years while females are capped at 53, compared to the national averages of 57 and 61 respectively. The province has had the lowest life expectancy rate for the last ten years, despite a steady increase experienced since 2001.
