Rape accused man arrested for his daughter's murder─── 05:37 Mon, 31 Mar 2014
Bloemfontein - A 48-year old man has been arrested in Bloemspruit in connection with the murder of his daughter, seven years ago.
Free State police spokesperson Joy Xaba said the man, who is also wanted for rape, had been sought by police since March 13th when the child's body was discovered.
He was arrested early yesterday morning as he was about to board a train in Bloemspruit.
The body of seven-year old Zikhona Mpedi was found buried in a toilet pit at a house in Bergman Square after the victim's sister reported the matter to police.
Mpedi died in 2007 after her father allegedly hit her and she failed to regain consciousness.
The victim's elder sister had been suspicious of her father but was allegedly threatened with death if she reported the matter.
The suspect is meanwhile also wanted for in connection with a rape that occurred in the Mangaung area.
He was due to appear in court on March 17th on that charge but failed to do so.
He will appear in court on Wednesday on the murder charge.
