Mahikeng - As violent delivery protests in one part of the North West province have died down, they seem to be flaring up in other parts.
In the latest incident last night, protestors stoned vehicles near the Rooigrond informal settlement on the Mahikeng-Lichtenburg road.
The provincial government says allegations have also surfaced that the chaos is being orchestrated and certain municipalities targeted by senior leaders with personal interests. Violent protests erupted last week Pin Boitumelong, near Bloemhof.
Residents blocked the N12 and set alight a municipal office, community hall, and houses belonging to the mayor, two councillors and two officials. They also torched several businesses.
By Tuesday, the protest had spilled over to Coverdale in Christiana, where a community hall was torched.
Residents were demanding the removal of their entire municipal council and to fall under a different municipality.
