Rustenburg - A search and rescue official has recounted what he calls the drastic medical measures taken to rescue a man who was trapped on a mountain near the Rustenburg Kloof Resort.
Mountain Club of South Africa Search and Rescue spokesperson Dean van der Merwe says says the rescue of 26-year old Tsenolo Shadrick Rasello was unique and complex due to the amount of people and time it took to free him.
Last Friday, Rasello’s leg become wedged on a cliff between two large rocks.
Van der Merwe says it took over three days to get Rasello to hospital, with twelve different organisations and over a hundred people involved in the mission.
Rasello's leg had to be amputated in order to free him. Van Der Merwe says they could not free the leg from between the rocks even after the amputation.
