Huge cost of FS bucket eradication programme questioned─── 05:39 Thu, 18 Jun 2015

Bloemfontein - Bloemwater paid R30 000 per toilet to replace bucket toilets in the previous financial year, failed to reach the targets set out in its contract and the majority of toilets installed are connected but don't flush.
This was revealed during an investigation by OFM News' sister publication, Courant, into the bucket eradication programme in the Free State.
Bloemwater was appointed by the national department of Water and Sanitation and the Free State department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs as the implementing agent for the multimillion rand bucket eradication programme in the Free State.
Provincial Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC, Olly Mlamleli, says she is aware of the problems with Bloemwater’s performance and the challenges faced in terms of the eradication of bucket toilets in the province.
