policeman from Ficksburg retires at the end of July after being in the police for 37 years
A 58 year old warrant Officer Izak Nel joint the South African Police Service in 1975 and was based at Park View police station. From 1976 until 1978 he worked at the Riot Squad in Soweto. He resigned for three years and rejoined the service in 1998 and was based in Ladybrand for six years and moved to Ficksburg where spent his last years as police official till he went to pension this year in July 2015.
During his membership in the South African Police Service he was awarded with loyalty medals such as anti terrorism, ten years service, twenty years service, and thirty years service for serving his community with dignity and pride.
He is popularly known as Sakkie Nell, was also very active in sports he played for the South African Police Service Free State Bowls and participated in ten national competitions. He was awarded with 5 golden medals and five silver medals in 2007 during the South African Police Service national development team competitions.
During his farewell party on Friday 03 July 2015 at the Ficksburg Police canteen he wished us well and gave the message to serving members that he was a proud police official who served thirty seven years without a single disciplinary hearing brought against him and advised members to stay focused, loyal and not be tempted to commit crime.
