Situation back to normal at Brits prison─── DANE BEISHEIM 12:40 Mon, 13 Jul 2015
Brits - It is business as usual at the Losperfontein Prison outside Brits in North West.
This is according to spokesperson Sarie Peens and follows after an inmate was shot dead during an escape attempt yesterday morning.
Floyd Mabena, 41, was serving a life sentence for murder, two robberies and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
After subduing two prison warders with a knife and toy gun and disguising himself with a warder uniform, Mabena hijacked a security vehicle patrolling the area. Following a chase by security personnel and police on the N4 towards Ga-Rankuwa, north of Pretoria, he was shot and killed.
According to Peens, the National Commissioner of Correctional Services Zach Modise has requested an internal investigation into the matter.
