Virginia - Twelve men were arrested this morning after an attempted house robbery at Swalukrans farm in Virginia, near Welkom in the Free State.
Police spokesperson Khosana Malebo says the police were notified after a woman's screams were heard at the farm.
He says a domestic worker was approached by a man with a 9mm pistol while she was hanging laundry in the yard.
Khosana says the men, who are believed to be zama zamas (illegal miners), were arrested with the assistance of a helicopter owned by a Welkom businessman, on the riverbanks at Tikwe River Lodge.
He says nothing was stolen and a case of attempted house robbery has been opened. The men will remain in custody for further questioning.
OFM News has received unconfirmed information that the attack was the third in two weeks at the farm.
