Bloemfontein - Human trafficking remains a problem in South Africa and it seems to be on the rise in the Free State.

Provincial assistant manager for victim empowerment programmes at the Department of Social Development, Lerato Tubane says while human trafficking is a fairly new phenomenon in the Free State, cases involving domestic workers from Lesotho are increasing.

Tubane says parents must be vigilant about who their children interact with on social media, especially with the holiday season in full-swing.

A Welkom parent, Raymond Nefdt issued a letter to OFM News alerting parents to be more careful when dropping their children at malls, after his daughter and her friend were recently followed by two foreign nationals.
