Mahikeng - The time to take corrective action at institutions of higher learning is now. This is according to suspended former SRC-president of the North West University's Mafikeng campus, Benz Mabengwane.

Following weeks of student unrest and violence at some of the country's largest institutions, Mabengwane says government needs to be held accountable for not addressing the plight of students. He further encouraged young people to organise and engage in further protests until their voices are heard.

Mabengwane meanwhile says he is doubtful that students were responsible for Wednesday evening's arson attacks at the Mafikeng campus. He says those behind the attack want to put students in a bad light.
