Bloemfontein – Free State police are investigating a case of murder after the decomposed body of a newborn baby was found in Bloemfontein at the weekend, police said on Monday.
The baby was found by a passerby on the outskirts of Bergman Square, Sergeant Ikobeng Hlubi told News24.
The baby was in a blue bag, wrapped in a pink and white blanket.
Hlubi said the baby's gender could not be established as the body was badly decomposed.
"It looks like the baby has been there for a while and therefore we urge anyone with information to come forward," she said.
