Ninth suspect in Parys murder case granted bail | News Article

Parys - A third young man appeared in the Parys Magistrate’s Court today in connection with the murders of two suspected farm attackers, Samuel Tjixa and Simon Jubeba.

Lodewikus van der Westhuizen (19) was granted R10 000 bail and is expected back in court along with his co-accused on May 27.

Van der Westhuizen is the ninth suspect arrested in connection with the case. Loedie van der Westhuizen (73) was attacked by two men at his home on January 6. He pressed a panic button after which more than 40 farmers rushed to his aid and gave chase after the suspects.

According to police records, Tjixa and Jubeba were badly beaten and died within hours of each other.

Police initially arrested Anton Loggenberg (49), Loedie’s son Boeta van der Westhuizen (46) and a father and son, both Johan Cilliers, for the murders. The state last Friday dropped all charges against the two Cilliers due to lack of evidence. Police captain Henk Prinsloo (46) and two farm foreman, Fanie Oosthuizen (42) and Wian van der Westhuizen (20), were also charged in February and March this year respectively. Last Thursday an eighth suspect, Müller van der Westhuizen (19), was also arrested.
