Pacofs admits to irregular spending | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Performing Arts Centre of the Free State might have spent millions of rand irregularly.

This follows after an admission by the national Department of Arts and Culture that money spent by the institution over several months were irregular as one official, Nelson Salamani, acted in two executive positions – namely as the CEO and CFO.

The department's Kelebongile Sethibelo said during a meeting of parliaments’ portfolio committee on Arts and Culture that his appointment as acting CEO was also without delegations.

Concern was also raised at the meeting that there was no action taken against Pacofs officials for incurring irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure.

The department intervened at the institution in November last year after in-fighting and the exodus of senior officials.

A forensic investigation by National Treasury has now been commissioned by Arts and Culture Minister, Nathi Mthethwa. He said in an answer to a written question the scope of the investigation reaches over several financial years.
