FS initiation school closed after initiate severely assaulted─── 11:23 Fri, 30 Dec 2016
Theunissen - An initiation school at Foster Follan Farm in Masilo, Theunissen has been closed after an initiate was severely assaulted, allegedly by his teachers on Wednesday.
The 20-year-old man from Peter Swart, a settlement in Bloemside, Bloemfontein, was admitted to Katleho Hospital in Virginia for medical treatment.
Free State police spokesperson, Malebo Khosana, says a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm is being investigated. He could not comment on the motive for the attack. Khosana says while the suspects are known, no arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing.
"The message from our provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Lebeoana Tsumane, is that we will not accept barbaric actions in the name of practicing culture in our communities. We will continue to enforce the law and close those illegal initiation schools."
