Ficksburg police scoop up two awards─── CATHY DLODLO 10:17 Mon, 17 Jul 2017

Bloemfontein - The Ficksburg Police Station scooped two top awards at the Free State Quarterly Excellence Awards. The station received the award for the Best Station and Most Improved Station.
Last year, Ficksburg was ranked 67th of the best-performing stations. This was out of a total of 102 stations. It has since moved to the top of the list. These awards regocnise the station that has distinguished itself as one taking the most steps forward in terms of service levels during the first quarter.
Free State Police Commissioner, Lebeona Tsumane, asked guests at the Free State quarterly Excellence Awards to observe a moment of silence for the men in blue who were gunned down in Koffiefontein.
This event during which police officers who went beyond the call of duty were awarded, was held at Kopano Nokeng in Bloemfontein last night. Tsumane said the loss of these young lives was a huge blow for the province. He said police officers deal with the worst kind of humanity on a daily basis, but encouraged officers to be the change in society. Police officers should use the stones they are thrown with as stepping stones.
The recipients of provincial awards are going to the national excellence awards later this year.
Free State Police spokesperson, Peter Kareli, walked away with the award for Best Administration Employee of the quarter.
