Mbalula to thank police for Marikana crackdown─── NOMAQHAWE MTEBELE 11:10 Sun, 11 Feb 2018
Rustenburg - Police Minister Fikile Mbalula is in Rustenburg today to commend local police officers on their progress made investigating killings in the Marikana area.
Spokesperson Vuyo Mhaga says that crime has increased after the Marikana massacre in 2012.
Murders, car hijackings and other violent crime has allegedly been taking place between rival labour unions.
Police undertook a secret operation to specifically address these crimes.
Mbalula will be announcing how many arrests have been made since the operation began.
"The purpose of the operation was to catch the culprits involved in the killings that have been taking place in the area," according to Mhaga.
“That is basically what it is about, to make sure that we bring down those people who have been tormenting our people here in Rustenburg,” explained Mhaga.
