Investigations into an alleged armed robbery at a municipal building in Rocklands in Bloemfontein are still underway.

Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality spokesperson, Qondile Khedama, confirmed that the incident at the Leslie Monnanyane Building located opposite the Home Affairs Building took place at around 01:00 am, but could not elaborate on the exact details until he has received an official update on the matter.

OFM News reported earlier that the police initially confirmed there was a bomb threat and the bomb squad was deployed to the area. Investigations, however, revealed that it was indeed a business robbery.

The situation right now is relatively calm and emergency medical services and the fire brigade left the scene.

Qondile says they will provide an update in due course.

Meanwhile, some Home Affairs officials earlier in the morning refused to enter the building and get to work following the bomb scare, despite a long line of people waiting to enter the Home Affairs building.

According to an official who refused to be named, the employees are concerned for their safety and do not want to enter the building until the matter next door is cleared.

At the moment, a steady stream of people is making their way into the Home Affairs Building.
