Dihlabeng faces cash flow problems─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 12:02 Thu, 05 Jul 2018
The state of Dihlabeng Municipality in the Free State is deteriorating. According to the DA caucus leader, Gerrie Roetz, service delivery in the municipality is almost non-existent.
This as the municipality’s financial woes worsens. It is alleged that the municipality battles to pay salaries and provide basic services. Problematic services include the collection of refuse as its trucks are not being serviced. Roetz told OFM News councillors have not yet been paid due to ongoing cash flow problems. This financially troubled municipality is currently among the Free State municipalities that owe Eskom millions. Dihlabeng is over R1.9 million indebted to the power utility. Roetz adds that it is concerning that mayor Lindiwe Makhalema is back in office and has once again survived a motion of confidence brought against her yesterday.
The municipality made national headlines when violent service delivery protests broke out in Bethlehem last month, followed by Makhalema’s slanderous Facebook post where she called President Cyril Ramaphosa a “sellout”.
The municipality is yet to respond to OFM News’ enquiries.
