Authorities are investigating the circumstances following an incident where a nine-year-old boy was dragged for approximately 2,5km in Roodepoort near Johannesburg, Gauteng.

This is according to ER24 medical emergency service spokesperson, Russel Meiring, who told OFM News that a boy was left critically injured last night after he and his friends allegedly jumped onto the back of the bakkie at an intersection.

Meiring says the boy attempted to jump off the vehicle when his foot got caught in cargo netting and the driver was allegedly alerted to the boy being dragged behind his vehicle by another motorist.

ER24 paramedics were called to a nearby gas station at the Main Reef and Roode Road Intersection where the bakkie had come to a stop.

Upon assessment, paramedics found that the boy had sustained serious injuries to his back and buttocks, leaving him seriously injured.

The investigation continues.
