The principals of the Secondary and Primary Meisieskool Oranje in Bloemfontein said they have increased security after two incidents at their school grounds that raised safety concerns about the area surrounding the schools.

They were reacting to a report by OFM News that quoted three groups of parents, whose children attend the school, raising concerns about the safety of learners.

Both principals, in a statement, confirmed that two incidents took place earlier this week on the 29th and 30th October. OFM News's Cathy Dlodlo reports that one incident took place in the schools' bathroom.

Both principals, Anne-Marie Klink and A. Albertyn,  says no-one was injured and discussions took place between the school and the girl’s parent who indicated they were happy with how the situation was handled. In another incident, the cell phone of a mother of a learner at the primary school’s netball trials was stolen and the thief ran away.

Both suspects were seen fleeing towards Happy Valley, located nearby the school and which forms part of the conservation area. The principals said these incidents were reported to the police.
