Search continues for De Aar flood victims | News Article

De Aar - Northern Cape police are still looking for three children believed to have drowned after their vehicle became trapped in a subway at De Aar at the weekend. Yesterday, police were still pumping water out of the subway, which runs underneath a railway line, in an effort to find the bodies. Meanwhile, in the Moqhaka municipality in Kroonstad, the Vals River has subsided after overflowing its banks. Municipal spokesperson Khojane Madiba says six families from Maokeng are being accommodated at the Kroon Park Resort after their houses were damaged by rain. Provincial disaster officials visited flooded areas in Maokeng to help residents return to their homes. Madiba said all roads into Kroonstad are open as water levels have subsided considerably by yesterday.
