4 killed in Rustenburg accident─── 08:13 Mon, 16 May 2011

Four people, including two babies, were killed and five others injured in a head-on collision on the R24 Johannesburg Road outside Rustenburg in North West yesterday. Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeff Wicks says when paramedics arrived at the accident scene, they found that the cars crashed head-on after one had veered into the wrong lane. The two adults and two babies were already dead when rescue workers arrived. In the Free State meanwhile, 12 people were injured, two of whom critically, when their taxi overturned on the Theunissen Road outside Welkom. Wicks says the minibus veered off the road and rolled several times coming to a stop in a field. One man had to be placed on life support before being rushed to the Welkom Bongani Hospital. Police are investigating the cause of both accidents.
