Johannesburg - Three people were injured in protests by striking truck drivers in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg Thursday morning.

Police spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng says one light delivery vehicle was burned on the R21 to Pretoria and truckers pelted two trucks with stones.

The R21 north to Pretoria, opposite OR Tambo International Airport, has been closed. Traffic on the R24 is also being redirected from Barbara Road.

Transport labour union Satawu says they have sent a delegation to Ekurhuleni to investigate the problems being caused by striking truck drivers.

Ekurhuleni metro police say they remain on high alert patrolling railway stations, bridges over freeways and industrial sites.

Wage negotiations between the Road Freight Employers' Association and unions remain deadlocked.
