Person hit by car while fleeing taxi shooting in Durban─── 10:27 Wed, 16 Sep 2015
Durban - One person was hit by a car while fleeing gunfire at a Durban taxi rank where three people were shot dead on Wednesday morning, paramedics said.
Rescue Care paramedic Garrith Jamieson told News24 six people were hospitalised. Four of them had sustained gunshot wounds, while another person was hit by a car and a sixth person suffered from an undisclosed medical condition.
Paramedics said they had never seen so many automatic weapons on a scene.
A News24 reporter on the scene said there was a heavy police presence and that by 08:00, one body was still lying on the scene covered with a silver blanket.
A witness said he only saw one man running and then collapsing, while a commuter, Jabu Nchunu, 44, said she arrived at the taxi rank after the shooting and was told no taxis would be running on the route to Port Shepstone.
Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha initially said six people were shot dead, but later said he was given the wrong information from the scene.
