Numsa describes labour brokers as parasites─── 16:00 Thu, 26 Jul 2018

The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) trade union has described its victory against the labour brokers as a major victory for the working class.
Numsa spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, told OFM News that workers have been feeling the pinch of brokers for more than two decades.
Hlubi-Majola says the Constitutional Court has confirmed that temporary workers employed through Labour Brokers are permanent employees of the main employer after three months.
The Constitutional Court has ruled that the rules of the right to fair labour practices must now apply.
A long battle over the interpretation of a section of the Labour Relations Act has seen unions and brokers go head to head in the courts.
“These people are like parasites. They are not the ones who do the work and yet they are the ones who reap the benefits of the full labour of the worker. Their job is simply to place workers - that’s it. And yet they are the ones who gets the biggest cut of the proceeds. So because of this it is a huge victory,” says Hlubi-Majola.
