Pretoria - National police commissioner, Riah Phiyega yesterday announced a number of major changes to the SA Police Service, including a new provincial commissioner for the Free State.
Simon Mpembe has moved from his previous role as Limpopo commissioner and is now provincial commissioner of the Free State, replacing Kehla Sithole.
Phiyega says this shake-up in leadership is necessary for her future plans for the SAPS.
Phiyega also announced the appointment of three new national deputy commissioners.
The new national deputy in charge of operations is Sithole, Lt-Gen Stefanus Schutte will head resource management, finance administration procurement and technology management, and Lt-Gen Christabel Mbekela has been placed in charge of corporate service management.

At the same meeting, Phiyega withdrew Bethuel Mondli Zuma as the new Gauteng provincial commissioner after it came to light that he is facing criminal charges.
