Low voter registration in Maluti-A-Phofung─── 12:46 Thu, 15 Apr 2021
Only 48 new voter registrations have been recorded in ward 25, Qwaqwa in the Free State in the last weekend by-elections registration.
This was not anticipated by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).
IEC spokesperson in the province, Mathabo Rasengane, says voters apathy is a serious challenge.
She nonetheless said the IEC is are pleased everything went well without any disruption.
The vacancy in Ward 25 followed after the death of an ANC ward councillor last year.
Rasengane encouraged those who have yet to register, to visit the IEC offices in the municipality to register to vote on May 19.
