Trade union federation Cosatu is set to embark on a nationwide stay away on Thursday.

Workers will be protesting against corruption, retrenchments, high levels of unemployment, gender-based violence, and what they call an attack on collective bargaining.

Due to the pandemic, workers have been asked to stay home rather than gather.

Cosatu's first deputy president, Mike Shingange says people have been stealing money meant to help citizens.

Shingange said, "both the private and the public sector have conspired through corruption to make sure that workers bear the brunt during the pandemic, even when people were dying."

"Even when workers were not getting their increases from both the private and public sector, people still found time to steal the money that was supposed to protect the population of SA… at a time of crisis like this one.”
