The North West province will today celebrate Potato Harvest Day.

The MEC of Agriculture, Desbo Mohono, tells OFM News the purpose of the department offering assistance to farmers that can produce potatoes, is to increase potato production in the province and also provide employment to the people in the area. The department's spokesperson, Emelda Setlhako, says Mohono will today visit Bakang Farm who received support from the department.

Farmers in the Northern Cape had an opportunity to get advice from various stakeholders of the Provincial Department of Agriculture on how to expand their businesses. The departmental spokesperson, Zandisile Luphahla, explains to OFM News that after the five weeks of Farmers Makgotla that was launched by MEC Mase Manopole, different companies that were also present at these engagements shared their knowledge to farmers on how they can be bigger than what they are at the moment.


Youth farmers at the Bulfontein Farm at Wepener were celebrated by the Free State Department of Agriculture as part of commemorating Youth Month. The purpose of the MEC of Agriculture and Rural Development Thembeni Nxangisa’s visit to the farm, which falls under the Mangaung Metro Municipality, was also to witness how well the young farmers are doing. During his visit, he also got a chance to hear the challenges that the farmers are facing and how they wish the department can assist in order for them to achieve their desired goals. In a Facebook post, the department shared that they got an opportunity to witness what Mojalefa Mashao, who’s farming with beef cattle and fodder, is doing. Mashao also expressed his gratitude for how much the department has helped him.
