Former Munster coach killed in paragliding accident in Cape Town─── MORGAN PIEK 08:22 Tue, 04 Jul 2023

The former Munster Rugby Elite Performance Officer and Scotland International Greig Oliver, was tragically killed in a paragliding accident in Cape Town on Monday.
The 58-year-old Oliver represented Scotland in three Tests as a scrumhalf in between 1987 and 1991, while he was also a former Ireland U20 coach.
Oliver and his wife were on holiday in South Africa when the incident occurred at the Sea Point Promenade, a popular tourist destination in the Mother City.
The couple's son, Jack Oliver, currently represents Ireland at the World Rugby U20 Championship being played in and around Cape Town.
Oliver was reportedly a passenger during a tandem flight over the coast when his craft crashed into another tandem paraglider.
The pilot of the paraglider deployed the reserve parachute and landed in the sea, while it is believed that Oliver landed on the rocks.
Munster Rugby CEO, Ian Flanagan, said: “On behalf of Munster Rugby, I would like to express our deepest sympathies to Greig’s wife Fiona, son Jack, daughter Ciara, and the wider Oliver family.
“We are all in shock following Greig’s tragic passing. He was a great colleague and friend to so many and will be dearly missed across the Munster and Irish Rugby community.
“Greig made his presence felt each day, he was always there to provide a helping hand and was a hugely popular character with his light-hearted nature and sense of humour.
“He had an infectious enthusiasm for the game and was incredibly passionate about helping young players be the best they can be on and off the field.
“May he rest in peace.”
The Irish under-20 team will observe a moment of silence ahead of their U20 Championship clash against Fiji at the Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch on Tuesday afternoon. This fixture is scheduled to kick off at 13:30.
