Junior Bok Sefoor on debut for Griquas─── MORGAN PIEK 15:05 Fri, 16 Aug 2024

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity that the Griquas have given me. I was meant to come later in the year, but due to a couple of things they pulled some strings to bring me in a bit earlier.”
The Junior Springbok flyhalf, Tylor Sefoor, is on debut for the Suzuki Griffons this week when they face the Griffons in Welkom in the Currie Cup.
Sefoor only linked up with the team on Tuesday (13/8), but he’s on the bench for the game due to the injury crises rocking the SA Cup champions.
He was only meant to join the Griquas later in the year, however, he was released earlier by the Cheetahs. Sefoor was contracted to replace Lubabalo Dobela who is heading to the Lions later in the year, however, the injury to the latter prompted the team to bring in the former CUT Ixias players earlier.
Sefoor told OFM Sport he is excited about the opportunity and he looks forward to making his debut. “I’m very grateful for the opportunity that the Griquas have given me. I was meant to come later in the year, but due to a couple of things, they pulled some strings to bring me in a bit earlier.
“It’s definitely challenging just coming in so late in the season – getting to know new people, a new place, new teammates, new plays and calls, and having to adjust to all of that.
“There are no complaints about all of that and to make my debut is a massive opportunity. I think I’m also the youngest guy in the group and they are showing me that they are backing me at this age.”

The Griquas coach, Pieter Bergh, told OFM Sport that the player’s debut has been sped up and he is an investment for the future. “We’re looking forward to his stay at the Griquas. We weren’t planning on using him in this Currie Cup.
“We signed him and gave him a long-term contract and he is currently the player with the longest contract on the team. The reason for that is because we see him having a lot of potential for the future. We’re throwing him into the deep end in the Currie Cup now, but overall we’re seeing him as an investment for the future.”
Sunday’s Currie Cup fixture in Welkom kicks off at 15:00.
