All eyes fixed on SONA and SOPAs | News Article

The Premier of the Free State, Sisi Ntombela, is soon expected to deliver the State of the Province Address (SOPA).

Her much-anticipated address is set to follow soon after President Cyril Ramaphosa has delivered the State of the Nation Address (SONA) before Cabinet and other members of parliament on February 7.

Free State Legislature’s spokesperson, Life Mokone, has confirmed the first sitting of the house is scheduled for February 19 when Ntombela is expected to deliver her speech.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Baleka Mbete, and chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Thandi Modise, will on Wednesday brief the media about parliament’s preparations and state of readiness to host the 2019 SONA.

The EFF has thus far threatened to disrupt the SONA, should Ramaphosa not address questions regarding the Bosasa scandals and act against ANC members implicated in corruption as revealed at the state capture commission of inquiry.

It is during the State of the Nation Address at the beginning of the year when the president outlines government policies, direction to be taken for the year, and also identifies special goals and targets for his administration.
