Social media users raise questions over #SONA2019 | News Article

Questions are mounting as to whether President Cyril Ramaphosa’s plans to grow the economy, improve the state of State-owned Enterprises (SOE)s, deal with corruption and those implicated in the state capture, will materialise.

This, as opposition parties and social media users continue to raise concerns over some of the promises made by Ramaphosa last night when he delivered the State of the Nation Address. While some have raised questions regarding how he plans to create the more than 275 000 direct jobs every year and rescue Eskom from its financial rut, others are concerned over members of his cabinet implicated in corruption and state capture who still holds office. DA’s leader, Mmusi Maimane, explains why Ramaphosa’s speech in his view remains questionable.

He says last night’s Sona promised more than what government can deliver and that Ramaphosa’s plan for job creation was not practical.

Following Ramaphosa’s announcement that he will establish a directorate within the NPA to deal with evidence that has emerged at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry and reiterating that prosecutions must happen and stolen funds should be recovered, a number of social media users have also taken to Twitter and Facebook to raise questions over positions still held by ministers such as Bathabile Dlamini, and Nomvula Mokonyane, amongst others, who have been implicated.

While others seem to be more concerned about lack of accountability and consequence management, others are raising concerns over the education system and youth development measures.
